Cognitive Behavioral Therapy (CBT) is a heavily researched, evidence-based treatment that has been proven to be effective in treating a range of clinical issues. CBT focuses on identifying the cycles of thoughts, emotions and behaviors set in motion by a situation or trigger. Skills are then taught to help a client interrupt unhelpful cycles. Skills might target any one of the three elements of the cycle (thought, emotion, behavior). Clients learn to challenge distorted thoughts, develop skills for relaxation and mindfulness, make changes to behavioral habits and more. People of all ages can benefit from CBT, although some modification of interventions is necessary for younger children.
