EMDR Intensive Therapy, also referred to as an "Intensive", is EMDR Therapy that is delivered for several hours per day, up to four days per week. It is the same, evidence-based therapy model, delivered in a format that can help clients make progress much more quickly. Based on individual client needs, EMDR Intensive Therapy can integrate other evidence-based approaches such as mindfulness, relaxation training, physical movement, art or expressive therapy techniques and animal-assisted therapy.
No. Although this is an intensive therapy delivered in an outpatient setting, health insurance companies have specific rules about the content and format of IOP and partial hospitalization services. EMDR Intensive Therapy does not include group therapy or medication management services, which are required for billing IOP and PH services to insurance.
Research shows that delivering this treatment in an intensive format is effective for people dealing with a wide range of challenges and complexity of trauma. The majority of people who complete a full 4 day intensive no longer meet diagnostic criteria for PTSD and have met their treatment goals upon completion. EMDR Intensive Therapy is a good option for someone who wants to see large treatment gains in a short period of time and is able to briefly prioritize treatment over other life demands. Reach out to us to schedule a complementary, 15 minute consultation call to learn more about whether this approach is a good option for your circumstances.
Whether you will continue to need therapy depends on the complexity of your needs, your current stability and whether you participate in a 12 hour versus 24 hour intensive. We complete a thorough new client assessment and treatment plan with you, at which time we will discuss our recommendations and what kind of outcomes you can expect if you decide to move forward.
No. Even if you have benefits that cover mental and behavioral health services, insurance does not currently cover therapy delivered in this format.
